"Mingan" Wolf Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

20" x 16" Acrylic on Canvas. Framed in a solid wood black frame.

Mingan (pronounced MEEN gahn) is a Native American name meaning Gray Wolf. The word/name was first used by the Canadian Algonquin Indians and was then adapted by many Indian Nations as a boys name. The gray wolf (or timber wolf) has been through many challenges for survival. This magnificent creature is a beautiful symbol of strength and courage. It felt honorable painting him!!

Busy Busy Busy

I feel like I haven't painted in forever.... Of course, that isn't the case, but it does feel that way. I have been busy creating a new web site and trying to get myself more organized in my studio. Okay, so truth be told, there hasn't been enough organization to get me out of the dole drums I've been feeling. If I could hire someone to do all this for me, I most certainly would!!

I guess I'm just like everyone else.....I want it all organized now and I don't want to spend all my time getting it that way!!! Sigh....where is the magic wand when you need it??

"Lifes Pleasure" Flower Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

8 x 10 Artist Canvas

Done in acrylics, this flower brings happiness and light. I painted this from a friend's photo.
For more information on this or any other painting, email me at: marysbrush@aol.com

Note: For some reason the purples in this painting come out as being blue. No matter how I manipulate things, the blue stays. Just so you know, the real color of the background and center of the flower are a beautiful deep purple!! Very royal, very rich!!

"Chickadee on Glass" Enamel Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

Enamel Paint on a glass vase

Chickadees are about to fledge in our backyard!! We know their time to leave the nesting box is close because mom and dad are busy all day long bringing them bits of food.

Soon they'll be in our plum tree where we can watch them up close....sometimes we can even hold them before they realize they're supposed to be afraid of us. Now that is a true Blessing!!

Please feel free to leave a comment or if you'd like your own Chickadee painting on glass or canvas, email me: marysbrush@aol.com

"Bird Beauty" Acrylic Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

8 x 10 Artist Board

Kingfishers are considered a strange bird by some and a bird of beauty by others. This painting was inspired by a photo that a friend shared with me.

"Hear Me Roar" Acrylic Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

10 x 8 Artist Board

Lions are probably the favorite feline of the big cat family. Their very movements speak of grace, watchful casualness, and incredible strength. To be able to see these magnificent animals in person is a real treasure. Although this particular painting is scheduled to be delivered to our zoo, if you'd like this or another of my paintings, let me know at: marysbrush@aol.com

"Stillness" Bird Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

5 x 4 Acrylic Painting on Watercolor Paper

Our little feathered friends don't usually sit quietly in the open for long periods. When they do, they are a joy to watch. I love to see their true colors in the sunlight and always hope I'm able to capture their special beauty on camera.

"Orchid Blush" Acrylic Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

9 x 12 - Painted on all sides, but can be framed

Orchids always bring on a sense of wonder. Their look of delicate simplicity hides their sturdy complicated design. I love the blush of colors on the many varieties of orchids.

ENJOY!!!

New York, New York...What A City

Times Square...WOW!! What an experience...just can't say enough about this vibrant city.

Forced To.....

Sigh....well, seems the time has come that my paintings are going to have to have the ugly copyright mark!! I came across a site today that was actually downloading my image to people. They didn't have permission to do that. I don't know if they were charging anything, but they should have asked me first!!

I've also learned that there are some programs that can actually remove the copyright mark so we'll see how all this works out. I'm going to play with it and maybe try and make it lighter....yet still prominent enough to hopefully protect my paintings.

If any of you have some suggestions for me, I would welcome them. God Bless!!

"Pink Flowers" Watercolor Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

Watercolor on Arches Watercolor Paper

Sometimes you just have to let go and not worry if what you paint actually looks like something. Its the process of splashing the paint on the paper that can give the most satisfaction!!

"Red Is The Color" Acrylic Painting by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

8 x 10 Artist Canvas

I love playing with light and dark....there is so much to experiment with and learn! The pop of color is exactly what this study in black and white needed.

"Wolf" Glass Paintings by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

Whenever I come across a piece of glass like this red vase, my heart pounds a little harder. This is a hand blown piece that is truly a one-of-a-kind!! Many pieces have a painted on coating of color...not this piece....the glass is red through and through. What a treasure I've found!! Minimal painting seemed to suit this vase.... Hope you like it as much as I do!!

Counting Down

The countdown to my art exhibition is Really on now. Yesterday my canvases were shipped to New York for the May Exhibition. I'm feeling a big relief to know that they are finally on their way...now to keep the nerves intact until I get notice they've been delivered safely...

Not knowing what the weather is in New York City the early part of May, I'm seesawing between two outfits to wear to the Champagne Opening on May 5th!! Sigh....guess I'll just have them both at the ready and make a very last minute decision (typical for me). While I'm in the seesawing mode, I suppose I'd better figure out what I'll be wearing the rest of the time while in the Big Apple!!

Its probably time for me to get in the studio....I have several commissioned items I need to work on! Until next time......

New York City Gallery Invitation

Well, here it is!! The invitation being sent out for my Art Exibition.... :-)

I tried to do a collage that was more balanced than this, but then you couldn't read a word of the back side.... So, compromise was the best....putting the front of the card that features my painting in the background. That works for me!! CLICK ON THE IMAGE FOR A LARGER VIEW....

Excitement is building for sure. To be able to be in New York and attend my opening is indeed a privilege and I so thank God for opening these doors for me.... I'm hoping my photo skills are up to par as I'm planning on taking lots and lots of pictures. Stay tuned!!!

"Spirited" Horse on a Wooden Box by Colorado Artist Mary Arneson

Wooden Trinket Box for a Friend

Paintings aren't limited to traditional canvases. Thinking outside the box (no pun intended) is creative and imaginative....let your mind wander.
